what you'll need:

» unsalted butter » granulated sugar » egg yolk » vanilla essence/extract » plain flour » matcha green tea powder » salt » whole milk » decorations

Cream butter and sugar

Mix softened butter and sugar until pale and creamy.

Add egg and vanilla

Mix in egg yolk and vanilla until well combined.

Mix dry ingredients

Mix flour, matcha powder and salt in a separate mixing bowl.

Sift dry ingredients

Sift the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.

Combine

Knead the ingredients together using a spatula until a dough forms. Add milk to make it soft enough to pipe.

Pipe

Transfer the mixture to a piping bag and pipe your design onto baking paper. (You can place a stencil underneath.)

Chill

Chill the cookies in the fridge for 20-30 minutes. In the meantime, preheat the oven to 170°C (340°F).

Bake

Add sugar decorations before baking. Bake on the middle shelf at 170°C (340°F) for 12-15 minutes.

Cool & decorate

Cool for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool fully before decorating.

Store

Keep in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freezer for up to 2 months.
